Part 107 (Drone Pilot) Program Requirements

  • To become a certified drone pilot under Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, you must:

    • Be at least 16 years old

    • Be proficient in English

    • Be physically and mentally fit to fly a drone

    • Pass the Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG) exam

    • Obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA

    • Register each drone you own with the FAA

    • Have a valid government-issued photo ID

    Exam requirements

    • The Part 107 exam is 60 questions long

    • The exam must be taken in-person at an FAA-authorized testing center

    • The testing fee is $175

    • The exam covers topics like airspace regulations, weather conditions, and emergency procedures

    Registration requirements

    • Each drone you own must be registered with the FAA

    • Registration costs $5 per drone for three years
